Obituary for Howard Lavender

Howard Lavender, 91, of 1918 Hwy 9 passed away, Thursday, April 22, 2010 with his family by his side.
Mr. Lavender was born March 2, 1919 in McDowell County and lived in Buncombe County for the past 45 years. He was in the US Army in WWII and served in the Pacific
He was the son of the late Julius and Dinah Lavender. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maybell Lavender; son, Nelson Lavender; 3 step-sons, Taylor, David and Randy Morris; one brother and 4 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Lavender of the home; daughter, Madge Golen of Georgia; sons, Gerald and wife, Beulah Lavender, Norman and wife, Kay, both of Old Fort; step son, Gerald Morris of Black Mountain; and 17 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, April 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
